The EPC Impact Often Overlooked
The impact on a properties Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) is not usually explained which can lead to problems later.
It is not always made clear that electric radiators normally have lower EPC ratings and are not always suitable compared to the advantages of changing old storage heaters to modern high heat retention storage heaters.
Electric radiators are seen as less efficient because they use more expensive electricity which negatively impacts EPC scores. High heat retention storage heaters offer better EPC ratings, as they charge using lower cost off peak electricity and can store heat for a long time and to use it efficiently.
Smarter Heating, Better EPC Ratings
Switching to renewable energy sources and improving insulation can enhance EPC ratings significantly. iCozi also offer the Solar compatible High Heat Retention Heater, which uses any surplus from solar P.V. to store heat, further increasing efficiency levels.

Choose Heating Wisely
The right heating choice is vital, so your homes EPC rating is not damaged because EPC ratings can significantly affect property value. Your Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) shows how energy efficiently your property is, giving a rating from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient). This helps potential buyers and tenants understand the energy costs associated with any property.
Properties with higher ratings (A or B) are more attractive to buyers and often command higher prices. Properties rated F or G may struggle to sell or rent, leading to lower market value.
Modern HHR Heating
Electric radiators are easy to install, but their impact as a convenient whole house heating option, on your EPC rating can be significant, which is why careful consideration is essential when choosing alternatives to old storage heaters.
While electric radiators can provide immediate warmth, they can lead to higher energy bills compared to other heating methods, which is why electric radiators lower the EPC Rating
The Advantages of High Heat Retention Storage Heaters are now clear when compared to the old inefficient storage heaters and while HHR Storage Heaters still work in a similar way, so they store heat during o-peak hours, normally at night when electricity is cheaper but they now use modern significantly improved insulation materials so heat is stored for longer so you can now have heat available all day.
HHR vs Electric Radiators
The benefits of HHR storage heaters compared to electric radiators is mainly in the cost savings HHR heaters can give by using cheaper o-peak electricity. Modern storage heaters act like a heat battery, and they can now provide a steady temperature throughout the day, making your home feel warm and cosy plus the energy efficiency of these heaters is designed to be more efficient than traditional electric radiators, which can help improve your EPC rating.
Improve EPC Ratings
Switching Old Storage Heaters to High Heat Retention Storage Heaters can significantly improve your EPC rating. As an example, removing old panel heaters and installing HHR heaters can increase your EPC score by approximately 6 to 12 points, which enhances the value of your home or for a rental property it also makes it more appealing to potential tenants.
High Heat Retention Storage Heaters are a smart choice for energy efficiency and comfort, especially in homes where gas heating is not an option. They oer a practical solution to the challenges of electric heating while positively impacting your EPC rating and switching to High Heat Retention Storage Heaters is a recognised and eective way to enhance a home’s EPC rating. These heaters store heat during o-peak hours and release it when needed, making them more ecient than traditional electric radiators.
Incorporating Renewable Energy Sources
Integrating renewable energy sources, such as solar panels, can also boost your EPC rating and iCozi can also oer HHR storage heaters that use any surplus self-generated electricity, so you can further reduce reliance on high-cost fuels and lower your overall energy consumption. This not only helps in improving your EPC score but also contributes to a more sustainable environment.
In summary, electric radiators can have a negative eect on EPC ratings and while they are easy to install and provide immediate warmth, they rely on daytime standard electricity, which is often more expensive than cheaper o-peak options that HHR storage heaters use. If you’re looking to improve your EPC rating, considering alternatives to radiators such as high heat retention storage heaters, which can oer better eciency and lower costs is essential.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a High Heat Retention Storage Heater?
A High Heat Retention storage heater is a new style of storage heater that gives you increased efficiency, an easy-to-use display and the ability to save up to 30% compared to your old manual storage heaters.
What if I thought of some questions after my technical survey?
That’s not a problem. We have provided some space for you to write any questions you might want to ask us. You can either call 0800 048 9301 or ask us when we call back to give you your quote.
What if I want to change from storage heaters to electric radiators?
Our electric radiators are highly efficient and those in our main range are oil-filled with full programming, a built-in thermostat and optional Wi-Fi control. We don’t use old technology like electric ceramic or clay core radiators. We only supply and install premier electric radiators. During our free survey, we would advise if removing Economy 7 night storage heaters and replacing them with electric radiators is better for you. Sometimes it may be best to use a combination of the two.
